Rams jump out of Owens race

After being one of the favorites to sign wide receiver Terrell Owens, the St. Louis Rams are no longer involved in negotiations.

The Rams have decided to pull back and are no longer interested in Owens, though no reason was given for the change of heart.

It could be a simple matter of finances, as Owens’ side could have made contract demands the Rams weren’t willing to meet.

As much as Owens could have helped out a weak wide receiver corps, there had to be concern about him causing trouble with rookie quarterback Sam Bradford. ( Read More…)

Rams interested in Owens

The St. Louis Rams have expressed serious interest in signing veteran free agent wide receiver Terrell Owens.

The Rams have really ramped up negotiations with Owens and are hopeful that they can sign the wide receiver in the next few days.

The team desperately needs a star wide receiver to make some plays down the field for rookie quarterback Sam Bradford, the likely starter. ( Read More…)

Atogwe becomes free agent

St. Louis Rams safety Oshiomogho Atogwe is a free agent after the team did not tender him a contract.

Atogwe is now easily the top free agent remaining on the market and will garner a lot of interest around the league.

The Rams remain hopeful that they will be able to re-sign him to a long-term deal, but that won’t be easy.

The Dallas Cowboys, Miami Dolphins and Minnesota Vikings are all expected to aggressively pursue him.

The 28-year old finished with 74 tackles, two interceptions and three forced fumbles last season.

Rams schedule opens way for improvement

By Bud L. Ellis

With 2009’s one-win season still a painful memory, the St. Louis Rams can take solace in the fact that at least in terms of opponent’s win percentage, the 2010 slate figures to be easier to navigate.

The Rams will face a schedule ranked 31st in difficult in 2010. The National Football League has announced the game times and dates for the new season.

For St. Louis, it begins at home Sept. 12 against defending NFC West champion Arizona. Following a road trip west to Oakland, the Rams will stay at home for four of the next six games, leading up to St. Louis’ bye week Nov. 7.

That stretch kicks off against Washington at home on Sept. 26, followed by a home game vs. Seattle. The Rams then travel to Detroit, take on San Diego at home, visit Tampa Bay and play Carolina at home.

Following the bye, St. Louis opens the second half of the season on the road against San Francisco, returns home to take on Atlanta, and travels to Denver as November concludes. December dawns with a pair of big games on the road, against Arizona and at Super Bowl champion New Orleans. The home schedule ends with consecutive games against Kansas City and San Francisco, and the season wraps up with a trip to Seattle.

Rams hope easier schedule leads to better results

By Bud L. Ellis

The St. Louis Rams know which teams they will face in 2010.

They only can hope for better results than 2009. The Rams are coming off a 1-15 campaign last season.

The National Football League has announced each team’s home and road games. Dates and times have yet to be determined.

The Rams face seven teams that also struggled last season, winning five games or fewer. By far, the toughest game of the season appears to be a road trip to defending Super Bowl champion New Orleans. Also away from home, the Rams will face NFC West champion Arizona. The other six games are against non-playoff teams: San Francisco, Seattle, Tampa Bay, Denver, Oakland and Detroit.

At home, the Rams will face only two playoff teams from last season, the Cardinals and AFC West champion San Diego. The rest of the home schedule includes contests against the 49ers, the Seahawks, Atlanta, Carolina, Kansas City and Washington.

Based on the opponents’ winning percentage from 2009, the Rams’ schedule ranks 31st. Only Arizona has an easier schedule based on that formula.
